The National Engineering Laboratory of Efficient Drilling and Rock Breaking Technology of Northeast Petroleum University was officially established in September 2010 after being approved by experts in July 2010. It is affiliated with the National Engineering Laboratory for Oil and Gas Drilling Technology and the Key Laboratory for Drilling Engineering of CNPC. It also relies on the national first-level key discipline of oil and gas engineering of Northeast Petroleum University and the advantageous characteristic discipline of Heilongjiang province. The laboratory is positioned to meet the major strategic needs in the field of national oil and gas exploration and development, aiming at the technical problems in the direction of oil and gas drilling, carrying out theoretical research on rock breaking and tool development in drilling, and reaching the international advanced level in the drilling field.
The director of the laboratory is Professor Yan Tie, the leader of the oil and gas well engineering discipline, and the deputy director is Professor Li Wei. Currently, there are 15 regular researchers, 4 floating researchers, and about 30 doctoral and master students. The research team is mainly composed of young and middle-aged researchers. 80% of the members have doctoral degrees, and 50% of the members have more than one year of overseas study experience. The research directions of the lab are stable and complementary.
The laboratory has five distinctive advantages, including: parameter testing and analysis of formation rock; composite impact rock breaking theory and technology; wellbore stability and wellbore integrity assessment; wellbore multiphase flow and pressure control technology; and drilling engineering calculation and analysis technology.
The total area of the laboratory is more than 2,000 square meters, with more than 20 sets of equipment. The total value of equipment is more than 10 million yuan, including 10 sets of landmark scientific research equipment and 2 sets of self-developed equipment. It can complete indoor experiments including rock mechanics parameter testing, rock breaking process simulation of drill bits, mechanical performance testing of drilling tools, and wellbore multiphase fluid movement simulation. The research fields include oil and gas well engineering mechanics, rock mechanics, rock fragmentation, and drilling technology.
The laboratory has undertaken more than 50 scientific research projects, such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key Basic Research Plan (973 Plan), Sub-Project of National Major Scientific and Technological Special Project, including more than 10 general projects and 1 major project of the National Natural Science Foundation. More than 200 papers have been published in domestic and foreign journals, and more than 80 papers have been indexed by SCI and EI, including SPE Journal, Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, and other TOP journals. More than 20 scientific research achievements have been awarded, including one second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and three first prizes of the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award. It also has 60 authorized patents, more than 40 of which are invention patents.
The National Engineering Laboratory of Efficient Drilling and Rock Breaking Technology strives to pay equal attention to theoretical research and product development, to create a series of internationally leading drilling tools, to achieve the integration of "production, education, and research," and to provide strong power for oil and gas drilling engineering technology to lead the trend of the times.
