Introduction to the School of Art

The predecessor of the School of Art at Northeast Petroleum University was the Daqing Art School, established in 1993. Daqing Art School was merged into Daqing Vocational College as an art branch in March 2003. The overall transfer of the art branch of Daqing Vocational College to Daqing Petroleum Institute was agreed upon by the Daqing People’s Government, Daqing Petroleum Institute, and Daqing Vocational College on July 7th, 2005. On September 9th of the same year, the School of Art at Daqing Petroleum Institute was officially inaugurated. In April 2010, the institute was renamed Northeast Petroleum University, and the school of art at Northeast Petroleum University was renamed the School of Art.

The occupied area of the School of Art is 64,413 square meters, and the total building area is 29,920 square meters. The three single buildings are called the Music and Dance Teaching Building, the Art and Design Teaching Building, and the concert hall, all of which integrate teaching, scientific research, and practical training. The school of art has complete facilities, advanced equipment, and perfect functions, and its educational conditions are at the leading level of similar institutions in China. The college now offers three undergraduate majors: music performance, dance choreography, and environmental design. It has five institutions: a music department, a dance department, an art and design department, an art practice center, and an administration office. There are 83 faculty members, including 6 professors, 28 associate professors, 1 provincial academic leader, 1 provincial teaching expert, 2 provincial top ten dance teachers, 2 school top ten young teachers, 9 school teaching quality excellence awards, 5 school young teachers' classroom teaching experts, and 3 school outstanding teachers of the year.

After more than ten years of school-running practice, the School of Art has gradually established the position of teaching and research-oriented schools and trained high-quality applied art talents. And the development goal positioning is based on Heilongjiang Province, running schools with characteristics such as: connotation development, improving quality, stabilizing scale, and upgrading levels. It gradually formed the school-running theory of "distinguish right from wrong, practice art, insist on merit, pursue innovation." The style of the school of art is "Be unity and forge ahead, be pragmatic and innovative." The teaching style of it is "Be erudite and good at arguing and hearing, be good at discussing with others," and the studying style of it is "Learn from others and grow together." Under the leadership of the school’s party committee and administration and through the joint efforts of all teachers, students, and staff, we have achieved certain results in personnel training, education, teaching, scientific research, and social practice.

As of September 2017, the school has cultivated nearly 3,000 students, and the employment rate of graduates has reached 85%. Graduates are distributed in related fields such as national enterprises and institutions, artistic groups, mass cultural venues, trade union organizations, colleges and universities, primary and secondary schools, performance companies, design companies, and so on. Graduate students can master relevant professional theoretical knowledge and professional skills, and achieve independent completion of performance, choreography, creation, production, and design in related fields. It has provided many artistic talents for the local economy, social development, and cultural dissemination.

The School of Art will continue to carry forward the fine traditions of Northeast Petroleum University in its future development by establishing a school of quality, strengthening the school with talents, reforming and innovating, and creating excellence with characteristics. We continuously improve the quality of education and the level of school running. The establishment of the School of Art has international cooperation and domestic influence, creating a top-notch college in the Northeast of China.
